Case History: The mother abandoned him together with his other three brothers. The uncle took them in but realized that he was unable to care for them and referred them all to Huruma.

Case History: Margaret was left behind by her mother when she passed away on 2001 together with her sister. According to investigations her father used to abuse the child and they were thus rescued and taken to New life mission. The father is a drunkard who cannot take proper care of her children.

Case History: The mother died on June 1st 2001 of epilepsy. The children were left under the care of the father who was unable to care for them because of unemployment which led him to refer his children to Huruma.

Case History: Her mother died when she was very young. She was left under the care of her Aunt. They later came to Ngong and her father remarried and after a short time her father passed away and they were taken to Watoto Wetu Home for care and protection by then she was in grade three. She is the 1st born of her family and due to the fact that their step-mother was not able to take care of them they were taken to the Watoto Wetu Home who later referred them to Huruma.

Born: 1994     Gender: Female

Case History: She was born in the streets of Nairobi. Her sister Florence and her mother used to beg on the streets of Nairobi and depended on the goodwill gestures of strangers. In 2002 when the new government all the street children and street mother we arrested and taken to live in a dingy place in Kariokor and later admitted in Pendekezo rehabilitation programme by the police. Then after being rehabillitated they were brought to Huruma.

Born: 1993     Gender: Female

Case History: She has no one who she can claim as a relative. The parents are dead. She was referred to Huruma by a Doctor who after testing her for HIV/AIDS and discovering she is positive saw the need for her to get good care and love.

Case History: She is the fourth born in a family of five (5). Their parents died on 2002/2003 and they were left under the care of their grandmother. She operates a stall in Kajiado market and cannot be able to sustain the five children. They were offered a vacancy in Huruma at the request of the Children's Officer Kajiado District.

Case History: She was rescued from her mother, who is an alcoholic, and a high risk of going to the street was an option to the girl.

Case History: She is the second born in a family of five children and her mother was a single mother. Her mother passed away when she was very young and her and her sisiter Ann Njeri and the other siblings were left under the care of their elder sister. They were later rescued by Watoto Wetu Home and she was enrolled in Olkeri Primary School. They were later referred to Huruma.

Case History: She is the first born in a family of five (5). Their parents died on 2002/2003 and they were left under the care of their grandmother. She operates a stall in Kajiado market and cannot be able to sustain the five children. They were offered a vacancy in Huruma at the request of the Children's Officer Kajiado District.

Case History: Miracle joined Huruma in 1999 together with her two siblings. They were referred to Huruma by their grandmother after she had cared for them since their mother passed away on August 1999 through HIV/AIDS.

Miriam Njeri

Born: 1993     Gender: Female

Case History: The mother who was single passed away on March 1998 from HIV/AIDS. She had two children, Miriam and Leah and they were left under the care of their grandmother who is old and blind. The Social services in the are took note of this and transferred the children to Barnados and they were later brought to Huruma.

Case History: Both parents died of HIV/AIDS and relatives refused to stay with the children fearing contracting HIV. Her two siblings were taken to another orphanage and Miriam and her brother and sister joined our home in May. We negotiated with the other home so that we could bring the children together as Miriam was so broken by the separation and all five are now living at Huruma.

Born: 2002     Gender: Male

Case History: He and his brother were collected at Kibiko 'B' by a good Samaritan on 7th of January 2008 alone in the house. They were taken to the police and they were brought to the Home as the police take action against their mother for child abandonment.
