The Ngong Huruma Primary School, just adjacent to the home, started in 1993. The school has 10 classrooms, and gives education through to Standard 8. Huruma Primary School provides (as of June 2003) education for 151 boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 17. 15 teachers from the surrounding community are employed by the school. The school is approved by the Kenyan Ministry of Education and is based on the 8-4-4 system of education. The Ministry of Education has already conducted an inspection survey of the school. The home has also obtained a school registration and authorization letter to build a permanent school. We are currently building the new school. The school is registered by the Government of Kenya and is run by Huruma Trust Fund which is a charitable NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) in Kenya. Our School Policy The Curriculum Play is at the centre of the curriculum, as we realize that this is the natural Way children develop. Young children are active learners and they need time to explore and experience their environment firsthand. This is achieved through a carefully planned and stimulating Active learning Environment. Every Aspect of the child is carefully developed through a progressive curriculum that prepares the Child for entry into Primary School We emphasize the importance of respecting one another, honesty, fairness and self-discipline. We Use positive praise for good behavior and expect all children to abide by the school rules. We actively encourage a three-way partnership between parents, teachers and children. By working together we can realize the full potential of the children. There are many events for you to come along to. Apart from parent- teacher Interviews, there are school productions, sports Events and parent information/discussion evenings. Please come and share in our children |
