Welcome to the Huruma Family…

By Mama Zipporah – Founder/Director

We feel blessed and delighted this moment as we share with you what the Lord has been doing in our wonderful Home and lives during the month of September. We pray that you will be refreshed and blessed as you read through it. We hope you, our friends and partners will be joyful and glad as you read the news update. In this edition we have included news about the family, school, health and income generating activities.

Towards the end of August we were blessed to host Caz Holmes, a very dear friend of the Home who came together with the ministry of Going Beyond Borders. Last year when they visited, they had started the playground project and this year they had come back to finish the project. They painted the playground and the school pillars and joy welled in my soul as I watched the playground and the school turn so beautiful.

Everyday when I watch the children play there and the smile they have on their faces, I thank God for Going Beyond Borders for making my children smile. They also cooked for the children and spent time with them and this is priceless especially to the children who need a friend to talk to. The knowledge impacted on our children is priceless and our hope and prayer that it will be evident in their lives.

Samuel Njuguna and Agnes Wariara are two of our children who joined college and on behalf of Huruma Trust Fund, I would like to thank you for supporting our Sponsor-A-Child-to-School College Sponsorship program. Also I would like to appreciate all the support given for our on-going dormitory construction project which we hope to completer the first block this October and will hold a capacity of 120. The children are very excited about the new block in which they will soon occupy.

This was my dream that I shared with my board of Directors which I had written earlier in 1993 from the book of Habakkuk 2:2-3 that even if the vision tarries that at the appointed time it will surely came to pass. It has taken us 11 years since we started building the school and we thank God for all our national and international loving partners who have come beside me to make this dream of providing a place for my children to sleep in and a place to lay their heads every night. We are proud to tell you that the school which consists of a chapel is 95% complete. The foundation of the dormitories has been finished and we send our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Cornerstone Church who have made all this possible.

Home News…

By Grace Silantoi-Social Worker

Once again I am humbled to have this opportunity to bring to your attention the news of yet another great month that the Lord has given us. The August vacation is over and we thank God for providence during this time. The children enjoyed it more than ever before and thank you for all who made it possible through selfless commitment by volunteers. I would love to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals, groups and organizations that opened up their hearts and gave my children a shoulder to cry on and a friend to talk to.

May the Lord almighty continue to bless them and all our friends and partners who have always stood by our side through thick and thin and filling any gap that ever existed.

The school opened and we are glad that all our children reported back to school and we look forward to an exciting term ahead. One of out Children, Millicent Atieno had serious dental problems and through a long time friend of the Home called Dr. Robin, from Least of these Ministries she was referred to a dental hospital in Bomet whereby she was given new dentures and now she is able to smile again as well as eat with ease. Again thank you Dr. Robin for having such a great heart for the needy.

This month we have been experiencing water pump problems and water is very vital for the hygiene standards of the Home and we thank God for his providence for we were able to repair the problem which was mainly caused by the motor of the pump. Please pray that our pump continues functioning well for a long time.

School News

High School & Primary School report:

The school was reopened on September 5th 2011 and we are glad to say that all the children reported back to school. We were blessed to receive a mission group from Australia led by a long time friend of the Home, Caz Holmes. They painted the class pillars and the playground. This has made the school very beautiful. We really thank the Australian team for giving their time to make sure that the children learn in a safe and beautiful environment. When we opened school, we had a shortage of teachers because some of the teachers had gone ahead to pursue further studies therefore there was a hiring going on and during this period the children continued with their studies but we were not able to do an exam yet and towards the end of the month of September, the children will be sitting for their first exam since they opened school.

Continue praying for us that we continue to get great teachers who will continually equip our children with the best of education. We are glad that our Home counselor, Monica, has been very pro-active with the counseling sessions in school and since we opened she has invited a guest counselor, AnnMercy, who has been very helpful with the sessions and the children are glad about this. The children are taught life lessons whereby the sessions are very interactive and we believe this is a great way forward.

Home Health News

I thank the Almighty God for the grace he has bestowed upon us. The month of September has been a clam one because there has no major illness reported. Our HIV kids are doing great and we thank God for granting them good health as they continue striving towards their goal in life. Their clinical check-ups with Lea Toto Health Centre went on as usual and they are responding well to their treatment. One of our HIV children, Millicent Atieno was fixed with new dentures which has greatly helped her in terms of ingesting food and aesthetically.

As a whole, the health status of all our children has been good and we thank God for making this possible in regards to His un-ending love, care and protection to all our beautiful children. We want to thank our donors who have been contributing fruits, peanut butter, and medicine to our HIV-Positive children which helps boost their nutrition. Currently we have a shortage of antibiotic syrups and capsules also cough syrup. We really need these medicines because they help cure most minor ailments.
