 Huruma Family

Last year our family experienced a very big blow for our Dad Pastor Isaac suddenly went to be with the Lord due to a massive heart attack that struck him just suddenly in the presence of the entire household on the day we were supposed to be saying goodbye to our partners from Kenya Commercial Bank as we were waving them goodbye. Personally Dad showed them how to reverse the car and after saying bye, Mum left to see the gifts are taken back in the house which she never did because the children told her that Dad had fallen down.

Mom came and saw that it was serious and she could not handle it, so she called George her son to bring the car and every one helped to put Dad in the car and she told George to let her drive for she was more experienced than him.  She put on the lights and she drove with high speed while hooting all the time. But unfortunately Dad never woke up and he just went silently as a joke, which left everyone shocked.

In the beginning they were supposed to visit USA together with Dad and even both of them a day earlier went for the replacement of their passports which had expired. That was their plan but God had other plans for Dad and he left the world so silently when nobody was expecting it. This makes us know that we are not permanent in this world and in every moment and minute God has given to us; we should use it to bless somebody.

Dad has been a blessing to Mum, Children and the Entire Community of Ngong. He is missed daily. In any case Mum still had to continue with the trip to the USA. Initially she wanted to travel with the Gospel Dancers but it was so hard to get passports for them. Eventually she traveled with only one of the Gospel Dancers by name Zipporah Wanjiku.

We thank God because even if they were only two, they touched the hearts of Men and Women in Cornerstone Christian Fellowship church - Chandler in Arizona and they agreed to support her vision to build dormitories for her children. Together they promised to help her finish the Church which was the desire of our Dad, Pastor Isaac.

The Building Of Dormitories Starts Again

We start building again this month of February 2009. Not only the Dormitories but also the finishing of the church which has been built like a theater.  The balcony can hold 100 people and the ground floor can take more than 200 people. We thank God for all of you who have believed in our mother, Mama Zipporah.

May God bless you for helping her to feed, educate and care for us. Without you we could have been a nobody, but we are proud of you for giving us a reason for living.

 Health News

 Academics:

Extensive reading and writing is emphasized a lot in these classes. Academically the pupils are good and are serious with their work with just a few problems.
The opening exams results proved that a lot of work needs to be done so as to achieve good results. We are putting a lot of effort to see that our pupils get to a level of 400 marks and above. Some of the pupils tried their best and we hope that within the next two months, great improvement will have been seen as teachers have devoted themselves to nature the pupils into achieving higher grades.  Class six had a mean score of 264.0 with the first pupil scoring 392 out of 500. Class seven had a mean score of 242.2 with the first pupil scoring 329 out of 500. Class eight had a mean score of 286.1 with the first pupil scoring 366 out of 500 marks.

 Clubs:

The vision of empowering children cannot only be achieved in class work but also with the involvement of the co-curricular activities. By this, talents are noticed and natured to maturity. This is discovered through clubs and that’s the reason of having clubs in our school. The school has a total of six clubs each headed by a club patron who are members of our teaching staff. The club meetings and activities are all done every day from 4:00pm to 4:45pm. The clubs are as follows:

  • Sports Club
  • 4-K Club
  • Scouts Club
  • Art Club
  • Huruma Gospel Dancers
  • Beautiful Beads Club
The health clinic has been of great benefit for the children in the home who are able to access medical attention at the right time. Incase of referral cases the home management has been very punctual in acting promptly on any major problem.
In most cases serious health problems are investigated and managed in St Mary’s Hospital thanks to Dr. Michael Johnson and his Wife Kay Johnson.

The home also caters for HIV children who normally are attended at Lea Toto clinic which is a branch of Nyumbani Children’s Home in Nairobi who are competent in caring for HIV children but for medical expenses we rely on Dr. Michael Johnson and his wife Kay, through the Least of These Ministry.  Follow up and collection of their medication is done by our Home Nurse known as Nurse Mary Manyara. The nurse organizes the medicines which becomes easier for the children when taking them. The nurse also makes sure the drugs are taken at the right time thus no occurrence of defaulting. The children are also weighed on a monthly basis, this helping the nurse detect whether their general health is satisfactory.

Dr. Johnson has also seconded one of his drivers to the Home who has been helping us since our Dad passed away. We highly appreciate the willing donors who have supported the clinic by supplying our facility with equipment and drugs. May the Lord Almighty bless them and bless the work of their hands. Thanks to the Dorcas Ministry who have continued to give allowances the to clinical nurse in charge.  We want to also thank those who have devoted their time and resources to come and assist us in the clinic.  It is our prayer that the whole complex of Huruma that’s the school, dormitories, church, dinning hall and the kitchen will be opened on October 2010.

Last year on 30th October 2008 our dad who mostly went by the name Papa Isaac suddenly left us and went to be with the Lord. Since then, our Huruma family has been overwhelmed by the love and support shown to us by so many of our friends and supporters of the home. So we would like to take this moment as we start our journey in this year of 2009 without our loving dad to say thank you to all of you for being a part of our lives and for loving and caring for us as you do.  . It’s really nice to know that someone cares. We cannot repay what you have done for us but we do really appreciate all the nice and kind things you have done.

We are sending heartfelt thanks to you and may God bless you for coming out in a big way to support me and my children so that we can be able to improve their living conditions. You freely giving the money you earn so that my children could sleep well. By helping others you have done the work that Jesus said we should do. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.

Again, thank you for joining with me and for your continued generous support and prayers. It means the world to us and all of my children who sometimes think they have so little to give. Please continue to pray for us and we will pray for you.  May God bless you for helping me to reach the needy in my country.
