Love, Huruma Family. Huruma Family
By: Mama Zipporah
This is the hardest newsletter l have ever written for am writing when it is almost one year since my dear Husband, Pastor & Dad went to be with the Lord. There are so many things I would like to say and I just don't know where to start. You know we had everything planned out for we were travelling in two weeks time to go to Arizona, USA, where we were both speaking on the 17th of November 2008. We almost made it, but I guess God had other plans for him, for suddenly like a dream or a movie He took him away. I still don't believe what happened for it was so quick and I don't know if I ever will be able to accept it but now we have no choice as our lives have to go on. It's so hard and sometimes I don't have any idea how we are going to get through but God has seen us through this past year without him. We try handling things the way he would have liked me to handle them. I hope you know he meant the world to me; He was the love of my life. We would have done anything for him and we are very proud of him for what he did for me/us especially supporting me when everyone doubted me with my calling. Am happy he died a happy man doing what he wanted to do and with tons of honor; He died a hero. We will never forget him and the memories we shared with him. Despite all, we have seen Pastor Jojo acquiring a driving license and between him, George, David and the other boys in the home it’s like the vacancy of a driver in the home which our Dad happily did has been filled up. God has been faithful and we are happy and content with our lives here in Huruma. The Building Progress The building progress still continues but still we see other projects fitting in and it’s like a puzzle. You remember the walls of Jerusalem in the book of Nehemiah, that’s what I compare Huruma Home with. For since we started God has brought a lot of people who volunteer and do their work and leave. Some have come back and others do not but what we have is wonderful; memories of our friendship and the role they played at that time. This time God has put a heart for our Home to the Coca-Cola I.T group. God has put in their hearts to start a computer lab which will be located at the upstairs of the school. They have already put a strong door in the computer room and its there goal that it will function in January next year. In their mind they want to equip the lab with all the machine necessary.
Beside that we have also constructed an under ground tank which has been finished and now we can be able to harvest rain water especially through the coming rain season in October. The church building is also coming up great and we hope to put the iron sheets on the month of November. We had to first finish the tank for it was in a dangerous location to avoid any accidents to our children especially when the el-nino rains begin. As you know children love swimming and they can assume it’s a pool and we wouldn’t love to loose one of our children through drowning as we did one day when one of our children drowned 10 years ago. Right now we are buying building materials: sand, ballast, steel bars in great numbers so that we can prepare in January to do all the concrete for both buildings. This will help us finish the ground floor which can be used by the big children in high school. Also we will be able to finish plastering the church walls as well as put doors and windows which also need quite a lot in finances. We still want to thank Cornerstone Church who are assisting to see that we are doing everything but we also call for you to pray for us so that we can be able to finish all the buildings in time.
We are happy to inform you that now we are using our new kitchen. The ladies who cook for us were very afraid of using gas but when the firewood got finished l promised my heart we shall not buy more of the firewood. They have taken a bold step of using gas now and when we start cooking with biogas it will be no problem. For the biogas we still need to do the digester process. But before this we have to fill the tank with cow dung which we now borrowing companies like Brookside who are our partners and we hope by December we shall start filling up the biogas tank hoping to use soon. In the month of September we talked about Adolescence. We discussed adolescence in a big way and our sub-topic was “A time of change”. We tried to understand ourselves in a manner that we are not yoked together with things and people that can mis-lead us at this stage of our growth.
Our key verse this month was 2nd Corinthians 6:14 which states “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers”. As the youth discussed this verse they discovered that most of the wrong things they do is as a result of being yoked together with the wrong people. The youth agreed they have to be themselves; Say no to all ungodliness. I as the counselor left them with a discussion question which we shall cover next month on: - - Who is your friend?
- How do you benefit from the relationship?
- What do others say about your relationship?
These are open ended questions that will lead us to a sub-topic of Be Yourself, which is to be discussed next month.
May the Lord bless you, big time!!

New Term After a one-month vocation, the school came back to the final term of the year, which started on 1st September 2009 and which will end on the 25th November 2009. In this term, our standard eight pupils who are also our 2009 candidates are going to be sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination commonly known as K.C.P.E between the dates of 9th November 2009 to 12 November 2009. This is a national examination which graduates our pupils from primary school level to high school level. We believe that the efforts that the teachers have put in are going to bear fruit and they are going do very well and make us proud. Please remember them in your prayers.
Library Our school has been privileged to have a newly built and well equipped library, which is fully stocked with reference books and materials, study books and storybooks for all ages. All classes have their library lessons on the timetable where they go to the library together with their teachers to help them with the reading. The pupils also borrow books from the library, which has immensely improved their communication skills in English.
Staffing Our school has a staff of 18 teachers and support staff who work together as a team to see that the pupils are benefiting in all areas of learning. Out of the 18 staff members, 17 are capable teachers who work with the pupils in classes and outdoor activities. Each teacher has got their assigned classes that they teach and lead in the outdoor activities. We also have a library teacher who takes care of the library and attend to the library lessons in the school.
Clubs The vision of empowering children cannot only be achieved in class work but also with the involvement of the co-curricular activities. By this, talents are noticed and natured to maturity. This is discovered through clubs and that’s the reason of having numerous clubs in our home school. The school has a total of six clubs each headed by a club patron who is members of our teaching staff. The club meetings and activities are all done every day from 4:00pm to 4:45pm.
Conclusion With a team spirit, the school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child. Thank you so much and God bless you for you generous support.

Praise God! Glory is to God of our fathers who has called us to fellowship with Him, in His kingdom, as Ephesians 2:10 says. He has seen us through in all we have been doing and that is a blessing we cannot ignore.
Wow! Wow! What a God we serve! He has taken good care of us and we have seen His hand in all that we are doing. This month we did not have a major issue in the church and everything is running smoothly. David and I are doing a Bible study every Wednesday night in our Huruma night fellowship. David is an incredible Bible teacher, and he is a blessing to the church. Right now we are studying the book of Genesis, trying to see the heart of God to in His creating work and how things begun. The church council is doing fine and we are still holding our meetings every Sunday morning for prayers as well as after the service for church matters.
We are doing a series of teaching on PRAYERS AND SEPARATION, and we have seen the hand of God in all this. As we long for next month, as the Holy Spirit of God is leading us to a different teaching on BASING EVERYTHING ON THE WORD OF GOD.
We are praying that the church will be going to higher levels with time, as we allow the Trinity to have His way in the church and in our lives. We thank God for Cornerstone Church and all our friends all over the world who always think and pray for us, fight all forces to make our lives better, making sure we get the best. What you do for our Home it’s only God who can repay you back, which is our daily pray to you all. To God be the glory, for the great things He has done. Amen! Amen!

The month of September was a blessing to every one around the home and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been our shepherd and our provider especially at this time the country is in dire need of the rains. The extreme hot weather has really caused a lot of food shortage in the country which has really affected a big percentage in the country. Water shortage has also led to power rationing and this has really affected the small scale businesses and people working in the Jua Kali Sector (Small & Medium Enterprises. We do not take it for granted that God has really given us the basic needs for our children and the fact that people as individuals and organization has continued to offer great support to the home as a whole.
We have special prayers for one Mr. John Njuguna and his wife for donating four bags of beans as a token of thanksgiving to the Lord who has being their provider. By giving to the poor let me assure you that you are lending to the Lord by showing love for others by truly helping them and not merely talking about it but doing it. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others. Once again God bless you and may He fulfill the desires of your hearts and this will also extend to your lovely family. You are an added asset of change in the lives of our dear children and the Huruma family as a whole.
To the Coca-Cola Company, you are a chosen people, a people of power and your continued support towards the home is overwhelming. Soliciting both non-financial and financial materials towards the benefit of the home is truly a gift from God who turns our weaknesses to opportunities so that the glory goes back to Him. And though we are weak, His Grace is everything that we need. May the Lord’s tender love remain and surround you now and forever more.
To our friends all over the country and internationally, May the Lord bless you abundantly. You are like Mount Zion which cannot be moved but endures forever. As the mountains surrounds Jerusalem, May the Lord almighty surround you both now and forever more. Love is the ART of giving and receiving and for sure we have seen the hand of the Lord working in our midst.
Blessings to you all!! Home Health News

The health clinic has continued to offer great services to the children who are able to access medical health care when need arise. There has been no major health issue in the home and only minor cases were treated in the home clinic. The HIV cases continued to follow up with their clinic for counseling and obtaining their ARV drugs which are later organized in the organizers which becomes easier for them when taking. I also make sure the drugs are taken at the right time and no defaulting. The kids are also weighed on a monthly basis and encouraged on proper feeding. Drug withdraw has not been reported among our children and none has experienced opportunistic infections and we thank the lord for care and protection he has offered to our children.
Generally, the health status of our children is satisfactory and we appreciate the fact that they have not lacked food at this time of food crisis. The oat meal has also continued to play a big part in our children’s health as it is very nutritious thus boosting their health. Our home clinic highly appreciates the willing donors who have supported this facility by supplying it with equipment and drugs. May the lord almighty bless them and bless the work of their hands. Thanks also to those who devoted their time and resources and assisted us in the clinic by monitoring the children’s health.
Special thanks go to Dr. Robin who has continually supplied us with drugs, fruits and eggs for our HIV kids. It is such a blessing and May the Lord Almighty give you the desires of your heart as you continue serving in the children’s ministry. We thank God for your life and for taking care of you when you were away. Thanks also to the team that accompanied you to our Home and they had a great time praying for the kids and the entire Huruma Fraternity. Once again may God grant you favor to continue serving in the children’s Ministry. Thanks Giving.

Another month has passed and it has been a wonderful one for all of us here in Huruma. The children enjoyed a great August holiday and it was time for them to go back to school for their last study term for this year. The home school has been running smoothly and the children have been really working hard in their various classes as this is the term that determines who goes on in the next grade. They are all doing great and the Lord has continued to see them through in their studies. Also this is the term that we shall see another of our grade eights undertake their national examinations which are due on mid-November. Also we have our high school kids who are also sitting for their O’Level examinations which is a step before joining the university. Our kids in these grades are anxious as this is the exam that determines their joining of high schools and universities next year. Please remember them in your prayers as they go through this important period of their lives. Also for those of our Kenyan friends who have children in these grades we shall remember you in our prayers and I believe that all of them will perform well and successfully go to the next stage of their studies.
Lastly I would like to take a moment and thank all our friends from all over the world for loving and caring for us. We love you and we always remember you in our prayers. For those who visited our home either individually or in a group we really appreciate this gesture and we are thankful to you all. We love you all and you are a great blessing to our kids and the entire Huruma Fraternity. Also to our volunteers from all over the world know that we love you and you are always in our hearts and prayers.
