Love, Huruma Family. Huruma Family
By: Mama Zipporah
It is such a joy and honor partnering with you and serving the Lord together in solidarity, even as we went through some of the most trying moments of our lives and ministry, you have been there to stand with us. You have been such a source of strength, comfort, and encouragement to me and my children. Your prayers, understanding, and financial support has kept us standing tall and firm. This month is one we shall never forget because one of our little ones known as Baby Joseph just left us so suddenly the same way as our Dad went. It was sad for me because this is the first baby l taught Sialo (my daughter) with how to care of a little one and everyone in Huruma loved him for he was so sweet. At day time he was in everyone’s hands because everyone loved him. I used to take him back in the evening for bed. Even Mama Lisa from Cornerstone Church once went with him to Nakumatt, one of our shopping malls!!! But God loved him most.
It is a new day for us and we desire to continue working in close cooperation and collaboration with you our friends even in the days ahead. Thank you for being an active member with us and a useful partner in this mighty move of God. We are grateful to the Lord, who made us a supply source for hundreds of families during this difficult time of drought in our country. With the collective support of food sent to us we have been feeding the masses in a desperate attempt to keep them alive and nourished until this famine ends. Our continual cry to God, along with the prayer of you our faithful friends and partners, moved the hand of God on our behalf and rains have begun to fall. People are now searching for seeds and are once again planting, in hopes of producing a crop by summer’s end.
Life of Little Joseph Little Joseph was born in late September last year. His mother is mentally retarded and always gives birth to children who are raised in three different orphanages. Huruma has two of her children of whom one she abandoned in a health clinic in place called Ongata Rongai four years ago, and Austin now whom we have decided to take is now two and half years old. For the burial there was no where to find the mother but we got the grandmother who presented her in his burial. There were no family members around only us the Huruma Family. Later we got the mother who did not comprehend what was happening although l gave her the pictures of Little Joseph. She does not have a home she just roams with the children all around Ngong so it’s very had to locate her. On the day of the burial we were also able to locate his other siblings who are in St. Paul Children’s Home in Ngong and we arranged with the Director Jane Mutahi who had attended the burial, for the grandmother to go and see the children. So l can say even though it was very a sad day at least we have been able to locate the other children. Counseling News

This month was a continuation of a wide topic on Adolescence. We define again the meaning of the term as the development period of transition from childhood to adulthood. During this transition period, many things happen to a teenager. It is a time peers are often more important than the parents in terms of attachment and influence. This definition led us to our three questions: -
Who is your friend?
We discussed and came to a conclusion that the kinds of friends we have influence our behaviour. The teenagers discussed in length the kind of friends they have and this led to the other question: -
How do you benefit from your friend?
This question opened a big discussion on the benefits of friends. They discussed friends of mutual interest and how they share experiences. Others also discovered the friends they have are not fit for them. We also covered a third question on: -
What do others say about your relationship (parents, teachers, preacher)?
This question brought a lot of dis-agreements among the teenagers. Most of them believe that their friends have nothing to do with parents, guardians, teachers, etc. This hot discussion could never end but most of the youths agreed that it’s important to let your guardian/parent know who your friends are for them to advise you on how to have healthy relationships.
By the end of the month the youths agreed that friends are very important as they influence their lives in a big way, either positively or negatively. Also this being a tricky stage that determines how our future will be, I as the counselor gave advise on how to choose friends wisely and guided the youth on peer pressure and the dangers involved when on walk with wrong company.
The verse that guided us in the topic was in Proverbs 24:1 “Do not envy wicked men, do not desire their company, for their heart plot violence and their lips talk about making trouble”. This verse helped us to mirror the friends our youths have and make a wise choice on how to have friends that enrich and bless our young lives as youths.
May the Lord bless you, big time!! Home School News

Founder's Day October 30th 2008 was a day that will forever remain in our memory as a day of great loss to our School and Home as a whole. It was a day that started with a lot of excitement having had the Kenya Commercial Bank employees spending the day with us but ended so tragically by the demise of our beloved Pastor, Dad, and Manager who together with Mama Zipporah founded Huruma Trust Fund. A dark cloud hanged over us for the next 9 days as burial preparations were being made and we finally laid him to rest on 8th November 2008. On 30th October 2009 was exactly one year since our Dad passed away. To commemorate the day, we laid wreaths on the grave together with the pupils and staff and the other activities were pushed to 1st November 2009, of which we were joint by friends and well-wishers. It is our prayer that God Almighty gives us strength and more so Mama Zipporah to accomplish the good work and great vision that God started in her. Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E.) It is now only one week left to the national exam, commonly known as K.C.P.E. and our grade eight pupils who are also our 2009 candidates together with our ever zealous teachers are working so hard to ensure that all the pupils are well prepared. The K.C.P.E. exam is going to be done between the dates of 9th November 2009 to 12th November 2009. We believe that all the efforts the teachers have put in are going to bear fruit and they are going to do very well and make us proud. Please remember them in your prayers. Clubs On the 20th of October 2009, was a holiday in Kenya known as Kenyatta day. On this day three of our clubs went to the Ngong Stadium to entertain the guests and the crowd who had gathered to celebrate the day as usually done in Kenya. The clubs that went to entertain included the gospel dancers, the acrobats and the drama club. The performances were great and each participant did to their very best. The District Commissioner who was the chief guest was so pleased that he had to call back the gospel dancers to perform again at the end of his speech. We give thanks to God for giving us His favor and I commend the three groups for their wonderful performances. I also thank all the teachers who prepared the pupils and ensured that all went on well. The other entire club meetings and activities are still meeting every day from 4:00pm to 4:45pm in the Home school compound.
Staffing Our school has a staff numbering 18 who work together as a team to see that the pupils are benefiting in all areas of learning. Out of the 18 staff members, 17 are capable teachers who work with the pupils in classes and outdoor activities. Each teacher has got their assigned classes that they teach and lead in the outdoor activities. We also have a library teacher who takes care of the library and attend to the library lessons in the school.
Library Our school has been privileged to have a newly built and well equipped library, which is fully stocked with reference books and materials, study books and storybooks for all ages. All classes have their library lessons on the timetable where they go to the library together with their teachers to help them with the reading. They also borrow books from the library, which has immensely improved their communication skills in English. Conclusion With a team spirit, the school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child. Thank you so much and God bless you for you generous support. Huruma Chapel News

Praise God! To God be the Glory now and forever more. Nahum 1:7 says, “The Lord is a refuge in times of trouble, He cares for those who trust in him”. It’s an encouraging and real word to us. It has been a hard month for us but the Lord has really been on our side to strengthen us. We lost one of our little babies, and it was not easy for us especially with the burial preparation, for I had to conduct it. This is the second burial we have done but God is still our refuge in all these situations.
All the same, we have seen the hand of God in the church and all the teachings we have heard the whole of this month. We had some instability here and there and so God led us to doing a study on “Basing everything on the word of God”. This is one of the most interesting topics I have ever taught. We are doing a series of studies on “True and false prophets”, as Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone, Ephesians 2:20. The Church counsel is also doing fine and we are passing on what our late pastor planted in us as we guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Philippians 1:3, we thank God every time we remember you all for the continued support you have always provided to us and may the Almighty God bless you. Thank you once more for trying to make our lives better. May God bless, provide and keep you.
Yours in Christ fellowship. Home News

The month was memorable as this was also the month we were remembering the good special moments of our Dad and Pastor Papa Isaac. To start with I want to thank the Lord almighty for the care and protection he provided upon our lives through out the month. He remained our strength and our rock even in difficulties times and set the table before us and surely we lacked nothing. When we seemed to be down He surrounded us with his strong arm, kept us safe and brought us into the shelter of the fold.
With Joy, we can never stop meditating upon the lives of our friends and partners who have always stood with us and more so offered both financial and non-financial support to our children. This very kind of you and May you prosper in your dwellings. With your pardoning, quickening assistance that has prompted our wellbeing and created a song in us that surely the Lord is our Shepherd and as the singer sung, He makes us lie down in green pastures.
We also have a reason to celebrate the onset of the rains and we believe in some months to come food crisis will be a past tense vocabulary. Food inflation affected the whole country for a number of seasons and we pray to God that this time he will provide food crops in abundance.
Wonderful moments about our Dad were captured on the 30th Oct 09 where we spent time doing various activities that he loved most. We also laid wreaths on the memorial site and planted more flowers around the place which looks wonderful and beautiful. On the 1st of November we had a special service and despite the rains which we cherish most, the day was cute and we were happy to receive friends and partners who worshipped with us on that Sunday. Behold how pleasant and how good it is for Brethren to dwell in unity for there the Lord commands the blessing and life for EVERMORE!!!!!!!!
Blessings to you all!! Home Health News

The health clinic activities continued as usual with enough drug supply from our sponsor Dr. Robin in conjunction with Lea Toto health clinic. The HIV cases continued to follow up with their clinic for counseling and obtaining their ARV drugs which are later organized in the organizers which becomes easier for them when taking. The ones who had ear problems were taken to the Lea Toto health clinic to see specialists who had volunteered themselves to give free services to the needy and HIV infected children. May the Almighty God bless them and grant the desires of their hearts. Drug withdraw has not been reported among our children and none has experienced opportunistic infections and we thank the Lord for care and protection he has offered to our children. Generally, the health status of our children is satisfactory and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been providing for our day to day food. Our home clinic highly appreciates the willing donors who have supported this facility by supplying it with equipment and drugs. May the Lord almighty bless them and bless the work of their hands. Thanks also to those who devoted their time and resources and assisted us in the clinic by monitoring the children’s health.
Special thanks go to Dr. Robin who has continually supplied us with drugs, fruits and eggs for our HIV kids. Also special thanks to Lea Toto clinic for the providence of nutritious porridge flour for the same kids. It is such a blessing and May the Lord Almighty give you the desires of your heart as you continue serving in the children’s ministry. Thanks Giving

October is one of our blessed months this year as it is the time we are experiencing some rains after having a long period of dryness on the land. The rainy season has begun and we here in Huruma have embarked on planting vegetables and maize in our garden (Shamba). Each grade has a portion in the garden and the children together with their class teachers have been doing a great job ensuring that they have utilized their garden portion by planting enough of vegetable seeds in it. The various grades then sell these vegetables to the Home and the income they generate the teachers plan for school trips for their children. We thank God for giving us rains and we hope and pray that the drought that has been a major catastrophe in Kenya most of this year will be eradicated and everyone will have enough food to sustain them and their families. October is also a month that we shall never forget here in Huruma as it is one when we lost our loving Dad and Pastor, Papa Isaac Kamau, who was Mama Zipporah’s husband and father to her three children. It has been one year now since Papa Isaac went to be with the Lord and we thank God for seen us through this whole time without Dad. Also we thank you all for standing with us. Our grade eight children are just about to sit for their national examinations that are due early November. They are really revising and studying hard and we pray that their efforts will not be in veil. They are all anxious to join some of our best high schools in Kenya next year and we pray that these dreams will be fulfilled. Remember them in your prayers and for all of our Kenyan friends who have children in the same grade we are also praying for them too and I believe that they shall all perform well and proceed to the next stage of their education and life. At the moment we have four volunteers with us and they are really doing a great job. We have Heather and Janelle from USA as well as Mimmi and Silla from Sweden. It is such a blessing to have volunteers in our Home and we appreciate it that they leave their comforts back home to come and spend time with our children. To all our volunteers from various parts of the world, we love you and you are always in our prayers, hearts and thoughts. In conclusion I would like to take a moment and thank all our friends and partners from all over the world for loving and caring for us. We love you and we always remember you in our prayers. For those who visited our home either individually or in a group we really appreciate this gesture and we are thankful to you all. We love you all and you are a great blessing to our kids and the entire Huruma Fraternity. We love you and blessings to you all!! |
