Huruma family is delighted to present you with our Home Newsletter for the month of April. We feel blessed and delighted this moment as we share with you what the Lord has been doing in our wonderful Home and lives during the month. We pray that you will be refreshed and blessed as you read through it. We hope our friends and partners will appreciate the news update. Here is another of our Huruma Newsletter. Blessings to you!! Love, Huruma Fraternity. Huruma Family (By: Mama Zipporah)A time comes when one has to learn to rely on God alone, this being my 20th year since I started Huruma Children’s Home. On April 25th 1989, the children department committed 7 children in the home where six were boys and one was a girl. The girl was very sick that she could hardly walk or even sit down and do you know she was five years old at the time. She was in a verge of death but l took the chance with her and started bringing her back to health. I was discouraged from this mission by the government social-work department who were worried of the risk l was taking since the dreadful disease AIDS had just surfaced and every one was trying to protect me. As a result they persuaded me not to take her to Kenyatta Hospital but l refused to listen for l knew she will die thus took the risk. Today the girl is 28yrs old and she is working in our home school as a teacher. She is a praise and worshiper in our home church and am proud to say that she will soon be joining a teachers college this August. The great news is that l took risk for her to survive.
Am happy for the spirit of boldness which God has given me because throughout my life l have been faced with many giants but l have been able to overcome them through Christ Jesus who has strengthened me. April 30th, 1978 again was the day l got married to my Dear Husband the late Pastor Isaac who just left me and went to be with the Lord. So you can see when l started the home we were just in our early years of our marriage and l started bringing the children in our home and they grew together with our own biological children. The wonderful thing is that my husband supported me all this while and he never questioned what l was doing. In my second year as widow, am focused even though it’s a time now when the children are maturing and am faced with a lot of responsibilities as a mother besides giving them food, care and education.
For those who do not know me and my husband and I have been blessed with three children, two girls and one boy whom all have attained their first degree in Kenyan universities. They have seen the home grow for they have been a part of it from the beginning. It is my prayer that as they pursue their Master degrees they will be willing to support me for the home will out live everyone. They have advised me to look for an administrator so please pray that we shall get the right one who will be God fearing, child friendly and somebody who can be trusted. I want to thank you for the role you have played in my life to be where l am and whatever you have done how ever small, know that it has been noted. May God bless you all for allowing Him to use you at a time like this to minister to children whom even you have never met. Pray that l will continue to be a warrior for my children and that l will stay focused to my calling.
Love, Mama Zipporah. Home News (By: Sis Grace)We feel honored by the Lord Almighty for taking care of us through out the month and now we can count our blessings and say the Lord has surely done. We thank the Lord Almighty for giving us good health and a reason to thank Him for the provision of everything that we ask in prayer. The April holidays were a bit wet and so no much was planned for the outdoor activities. As a result the management came up with a reading culture where the children read story books in the morning and would break for their lunch, where they would return for the afternoon session to do their holiday homework. I believe information is power and this reading culture will provide an opportunity for better grades unlike in the past where they close school and forget their books. We want to discourage rot learning where pupils only read for the sake of their exams. The Bible says that understanding is fountain of life to those who have it but folly brings punishment to fools. Though there was some resistance in the beginning, I believe when change comes there is always resistance and we hope to continue persisting and we are sure this is an opportunity to introduce a learning culture in our children. PERSISTENCE LIGHTENS RESISTANCE!!!! I know God’s spirit doesn’t make cowards out of us and the spirit gives us power, love and self-control.
Many thanks and Gods blessings to our friends who thought of us positively, and organized a camp for the senior youth. Your efforts and devotion is truly a testimony for us and especially the children who are the key players in everything we do. Again, as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surround you both now and for ever more and we pray that God will do you good because you are also good to other people and upright in heart when giving especially to the children who are weak and needy. Thanks also for promoting their spiritual growth. Great is our Father in heaven as we continue counting our blessings. May I take this opportunity and thank our friends at heart who gave donations in kind of various types of food and thus promoting the health status of our children and we have no reason to worry as our God has continued to provide for us. Dear friends we are confident of better things in your case and we believe God will not forget your work and the love that you have shown Him as you have helped His people and has continued to help them (Hebrews6:9-12).
We have much to say about this month because God has done great things in our lives not forgetting our volunteers from all over the world who made sure that they gave their precious time to the children and we appreciate their non-financial support. May the Lord Almighty give you the strength and the heart to carry on with their great and kind mission. You show love for others by helping them, and not merely talking about it.
As the singer sung that we have an anchor that keeps our souls we have a true testimony that the Lord has fastened us to the rock that cannot move and we are still confident that we shall continue seeing the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. We also appreciate our friends and partners from all over the world who have always stood with and by us at all times. You are the greatest gifts God has given us. Keep your minds in whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper….And God, who gives peace, will be with you. Before I conclude, we love and pray for all those, though not mentioned are our prayer warriors and who have always prayed for our home and we have seen the hand of the Lord. For those who gave material support and their finances, May God extend the heart you have for defending the rights of the orphans and vulnerable children. See you next month for more news of how God has been faithful towards our home and children!!
