The Huruma Fraternity is delighted to present you with our Home Newsletter for the month of August. We feel blessed and delighted this moment as we share with you what the Lord has been doing in our wonderful Home and lives during the month. We pray that you will be refreshed and blessed as you read through it. We hope our friends and partners will appreciate the news update. Here is another of our Huruma Newsletter.

Blessings to you!!
Love,
Huruma Fraternity.

Huruma Family (By Mama Zipporah – Founder/Director)

I woke up this morning realizing that I am greatly blessed. Yes, I am blessed with great friends and my beloved children.  I have been blessed with the ability of self motivation; spiritually you would call it the gift of exhortation. You know, that quality that kicks me in the behind and says, “Mama Zipporah, you can either stay where you are or get up and do something about the situation to move forward.” Believe me that is truly a blessing that has moved and pushed me past many road blocks in my life.

Today’s news holds my usual passion regarding moving toward the future and your dreams. The message is simply this: This is not the time to give up! So much is against us everyday that it almost takes superhuman strength to remain in the struggle. Actually, it does. For today, instead of giving in, I encourage my self to stay in the spirit and say, “I will press forward!” Life is just too hard and it feels like there is a personal plot against me at times to make my life a living hell. Most times frustrations of my situation come from looking at other people’s lives and it seems as though life is so easy for them. Then reality hits me and I think, “I should start counting my blessing and see what God has done”.

We go to court again on the 27th of September 2010. But one thing am sure about is what Isaiah 54 says, “That no weapon formed against me shall prosper”, and we shall refute every tongue raised against us, for it is our heritage as children of God.  You know, obstacles, tragedies, past and current situations, fears, doubts, and seemingly impossibilities in my life aren’t important any more. My focus is on God who healed me 26 years ago and l gave my life to serve Him which l have done without severing.

Most of all again am thankful for my children who have really supported me. It has not been easy learning that the only person l can share my problems with is my God who is my personal Saviour and my friend. I am so happy for each one of you for you have been very supportive and understanding. Thanks for supporting this ministry, for without you I do not know what we could have done. Thanks for being there for me and my children. One thing l would like you to know is that it is not in vain.

I am proud to inform you the building of the dormitories is going on. At the moment we are still finishing with the sub-structure but from November you will start seeing the walls starting to come up. We would like you to know that the plans for the School and Dormitories were drawn in 2001 where the Evangelist Teresia Wairimu of Faith Evangelistic Ministries broke the grounds for the project on 24th March 2001. We thought the project will take 5 years to finish but you know our plans are not God plans for always He has the final answer.

The school has taken ten years to build and it is my prayer that the dormitories which have tripled in budget will be finished three years from now. The Sub-structure of the dormitories which is the most hard and demanding work of the project has been done and now from November we will begin building walls on top of the foundation.

We are thankful to God as Cornerstone Church in Chandler Arizona has come out in a big way and it has greatly supported the dormitories project. Please pray and support them as they continue to help this great project. We plan to create awareness of our project needs since we stopped when our Dad died two years ago. I am so happy and it is my prayer that my children in Form One in our school will be able to sleep in it before they leave Huruma. We thank God for Pastor Marty McIntire, the Director of Missions in Cornerstone Church  came to see the ongoing project all the way from Arizona, Chandler  In July  this year for sometimes you have to come down to us to understand what we are doing..

We are grateful to God for Pastor Linn and his wife Mama Lisa who have been a blessing to the Home where through them we have been able to start a foundation for college/university children in Huruma. Higher learning institutions in Kenya are very expensive and even if we want our children to patronize them we could not afford to do it.

Am proud to say that in June this year, through Cornerstone Church in Chandler, we were able to start a POST HURUMA CHILDREN’S HOME UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE SPONSORSHIP FUND through their help and right now we have been able to take Pastor Jojo to PAC University in Nairobi where he is pursuing a degree in Theology and David Mburu to Gresta University where he is pursuing a degree in Business Administration.

The fund has further catered for their accommodation and maintenance while in school. We still have like 10 former kids who are in the waiting list and we need to put them to various colleges and universities of their choice. Just pray that God will touch a lot of people to help me give quality education to my children.

I want to offers special thanks to all our friends and partners from all over the world for standing with me. Mama Emily and your family in Bay Bridge, l love you so much and you are a gift to my Home and children. All my friends wherever you are l care for you and you are always in my prayers. It is always wonderful to see our former volunteers visit our Home and spend some time with our children. In regards to that I want to thank one of them namely Jonathan (Mburu) Tench who visited us for two days while on a business trip from Rwanda.

It was wonderful to host you and refresh your “Kikuyu” (my native language) speaking skills while in our Home. May God bless you for holding us in your heart as your Kenyan family. For Godfrey Smith who started all this in 2000, l want you to know that the project shall be finished and I have faith that it shall come to pass.  It is my prayer that our friends who started with us can be able to come back and together we count the blessings. I love you so much and l care. May God bless you.

Home News

Once again we are humbled to have this opportunity to present you the news of yet another month. This was a vacation with no comparison and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been so faithful to our entire organization for all our needs because He has surely provided wholly. The holiday programme was marvelous and our children enjoyed it more than ever before.

We want to appreciate our friends and partners who contributed to this making; their selfless commitment made the holiday more enjoyable and fulfilling. The transition programme is the headline news for the month of August. It is a program that made the high school students afford a smile.

Being a new programme in the Home and involving every student even those who do not have people to call their own, the students embraced the idea with a lot of joy. We released a total of fifteen students for the first two weeks of the August vacation to go and visit their relatives and the ones who didn’t have anyone to go to, we requested and arranged with our Kenyan friends to host them in their families.

This programme is meant to prepare our kids psychologically ahead of the initial exit from the Home after their high school education which is a requirement from our Children Department office. It is our hope and prayer that our friends and partners will join us in realizing this big task ahead of us.

First and foremost I would like to appreciate our friends from all over the world. Those of you who visited as individuals, groups and organizations we thank you so much for being there for us and especially for the children who are always ready to receive anyone who is ready to give them love and more so a shoulder to cry on. I would like to appreciate Tom Spencer’s group from North Carolina who organized the first camp for our children.

Their wonderful teachings which were based on Christian values were overwhelming and we thank you for the knowledge impacted on our children. It is our hope and prayer that it will be of great use to our children as they strive to pursue their goals in life. We believe knowledge is power and that it will open up their unveiled queries and that they will have light that gives life. May God bless you for taking time to come all the way from your country to spend quality time with our children and more so to teach them the Word of God.

The arrival of Wonderful Ladies of Excellence from Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, AZ Chandler, made the August climax as we welcomed them with joy in our hearts. Despite their financial and material support, they joined us even in manual work and they did refreshing of the old paintings in our school and it now looks so beautiful. My prayer is that God will make you great among Nations because you are not just His co-workers but servants of all the others.

Thanks also for empowering our youth by organizing a two days camp where they enjoyed the bonding time and the camp fire session. You have surely opened doors for them and I believe you have lit a candle that will remain shining in their lives.

May the Lord almighty continue to bless those people who have always stood by our side in times of dire need in the Home. Thanks for filling the gap that existed between our children and their background for they are children with moving case histories.

As the singer sang and said that We have a story to tell the nations, That shall turn their hearts to the right: A story of truth and sweetness, A story of peace and light: For the darkness shall turn to dawning, and the dawning to noonday bright, And Christ’s great kingdom shall come on earth, The kingdom of Love and light FOR GREAT IS THY FAITHFULLNESS.

Home Health News

August has been a good month in regards to the health of all our children. The cold weather still extended to the month of August thus still most of our children experienced minor cold illnesses which were attended to by our home nurse. This is a month where the home nurse took the weight and height recordings for all our children and the recordings showed that our kids were fairing well in regards to the above stated. Their growth is going well as expected especially for our HIV kids.

Our HIV kids are doing great and we thank God for granting them good health as they continue striving towards their goal in life. Their clinical check-ups with Lea Toto Health centre went on as usual and they are responding well to their treatment. As a whole, the health status of all our children has been good and we thank God for making this possible in regards to His un-ending love, care and protection to all our beautiful children. We thank our donors who have been contributing eggs, peanut butter, fruits, and medicine to our HIV-Positive children.

Thank you all for all the support you provide in regards to making a health facility operate smoothly. May the Almighty God enrich your souls and heart’s desire and we pray that His blessings will be upon always.

School News

Both the primary and secondary schools were on a one month vacation which is termed as the August vacation in our school calendar. Despite the school breaking for the holidays the teachers spared some of their time to be with the learners in order to try and help them rise up in their academics. This was done as from the 23rd August 2010 to the 2nd August 2010. The remedial classes are offered free of charge and so no students was asked to pay any amount. This was done successfully for the two weeks period.

In the month of August, the school gave its facilities to Huruma Chapel to hold a youth camps which were organized by our friends from North Carolina and Arizona. Both groups held their camps at different dates of the month of August and both camps were successful and impacted positively on our youth. At the end of both camps, everything was handed over back to the school with everything being given back in good condition as it had been given to Huruma Chapel.

There was no any other activity that took place in the school compound until the 6th of September 2010 when school was re-opened. The school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child. Finally let us take this opportunity to thank the students, teachers, administration and the Huruma Children’s Home fraternity as a whole for their continued co-operation and support as we pursue to see the vision of both Huruma Schools be fulfilled. Thank you so much and God bless you for you generous support.
