Huruma News Update

      October 2010

Once again we the Fraternity of Huruma are delighted to present you with our Home Newsletter for the month of October. We feel blessed and delighted this moment as we share with you what the Lord has been doing in our wonderful Home and lives during that past month. We pray that you will be refreshed and blessed as you read through it. We hope our friends and partners will appreciate the news update. Here is another of our Huruma Newsletter. Blessings to you!!

Love,

Huruma Fraternity.

Huruma Family

By Mama Zipporah – Founder/Director.

I express our sincere gratitude to all of you who have stood with us as we continue rescuing lives of vulnerable orphans in Kenya. With your love, prayers and giving, hope and destiny have been ignited in our children. Be assured, our faith is increased through your partnership in changing their lives. This has been one for the month where we cannot forget that our Dad left us. It’s truly joy to see God has wiped our tears and even though we still can feel the vacant position he occupied, God has filled that vacancy and we have seen His guidance and protection since that sad day. We all sang his favorite songs and we remembered him by offering a moment of silence. Despite that October has been a very busy month for we received nine volunteers from Australia for three weeks and two from England at the same period of time. It was a blessing to host them and our children will never forget the wonderful and fun times you spent with them.

The construction of our new dormitories project is still going on and we thank the Lord because the foundation is almost finished. It is our prayer that next month we shall start building the walls for we are now bringing in the stones from the quarry and dressing them (preparing them to build). The steel wire is on site and l pray that we shall make it as we have planned.

One of our friends thought that l had made a mistake in regards to the electricity cost but I want to assure you that it is as stated. The cost is high as our government has increased on energy this affecting all in our country. Also we use three phase electricity to enable us pump water from our borehole as well as run our laundry machines which really use up high energy levels. Electricity is a vital necessity here in Huruma and we pray that we shall never lack money to pay for our bills for our Home to run effectively and smoothly.

All our Huruma staff had a team building retreat where they went on a day out to have fun as well as engage in capacity building. It is good sometimes to be away from the children and just have time for ourselves which we barely have. Christmas is near and we are busy preparing for Christmas Carols. It is wonderful to be among children and am so happy for you our friends being my partner and part of my life. Continue to pray for me for sound mind and accurate decisions as now l have raised a lot of youth and they are draining me and sometimes l feel very discouraged but l still encourage myself because still l have youngsters who need me more than ever before. Pray for me for I need strength and wisdom from God.  I love you and know that you mean so much to us and we care!!

Home News

To start with I want to thank the Lord Almighty for the care and protection He provided upon our lives throughout the month. He remained our strength and our rock even in difficulties times and set the table before us and surely we lacked nothing. When we seemed to be down He surrounded us with His strong arm, kept us safe and brought us into the shelter of the fold. With Joy, we can never stop meditating upon the lives of our friends and partners who have always stood with us and more so, offered both financial and non-financial support to our children. This is very kind of you and may you prosper in your dwellings. With your pardoning, quickening assistance that has prompted our wellbeing and created a song in us that surely the Lord is our Shepherd and as the singer sung, He makes us lie down in green pastures.

Once again I would like to appreciate our friends from Australia for their love and support they provided when they visited our home late September 2010 and extended their visit through October 2010. Surely you provided a warm and friendly environment to our children and this is the best encounter they would love anytime they have friends who appreciate them. Thanks so much for the modern beautiful playground that you initiated in our Home and surely we have a reason to celebrate you our friends from Australia. May the good Lord who always rewards our efforts reward you in abundance!!!

Am over taken by the hearts of our great friends from the Canadian Food for Children Co-Workers (BC Division) who donated to the Home a container loaded with assorted nutritious foodstuff and clothing for our children. Your love overwhelms me and your kindness is beyond words. This is precious beyond explanation and I place into God’s able hands that He may lead you in green pastures and that He may guide and set a table before you now and forever more.

The joy of having our van back showered the month of October as we celebrated its return. The most beneficiaries of the same were kids from the slums and this brought back their lost glory after one year. We believe that God will bring back all that we had lost in the past and that His blessings will surely follow us all the days of our lives. We also have a reason to celebrate the onset of the rains and we believe in some months to come food crisis will be a past tense vocabulary. Food shortage has affected the whole country for a number of seasons and we pray to God that this time He will provide food crops in abundance.

To all friends and partners of the Home we Love and appreciate your kindness now and forever more. Behold how pleasant and how good it is for Brethren to dwell in unity for there the Lord commands the blessing and life for evermore, Amen!!

Home Health News

The Home health clinic has been providing services as usual during this month. Our children have not experienced any major illnesses and we are thankful to God for giving us good health during the month of October. Our HIV kids continued with their monthly clinical check-ups with Lea Toto Health centre. All are gaining on their weight and are also in good health. As a whole, the health status of all our children has been good and we thank God for making this possible in regards to His un-ending love, care and protection to all our beautiful children.

We have special thanks to The Least of This Ministry who have provided the Home with layer chicken which will ensure adequate supply of eggs to all our children. All our kids will now have a chance to an egg three days a week and this will add up on our kid’s protein intake thus also boosting on their health. We also want to thank our donors who have been contributing margarine, peanut butter, fruits, and medicine to our HIV-Positive children. Thank you all for all the support you provide in regards to making a health facility operate smoothly. May the Almighty God enrich your souls and heart’s desire and we pray that His blessings will be upon always.

Primary School News

October has been one of our busiest months as it is the last study month for our eighth graders who are yet to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (K.C.P.E.) Preparations towards these national examinations have been intense and we believe that our kids will come out with great grades as they prepare to join the next level of their education. We believe that with the effort the teachers are putting in, we are going to have very good results come the end of the year.

The rest of the children in various grades are also working really hard in their studies as they prepare to move a grade higher come next year. Teachers have been issuing assessment tests to the students and the results have been quite encouraging. Also the results have revealed that few of the pupils in some classes need more attention so as to improve in their class work but despite this majority of the pupils are above academic average. This has been achieved through the commitment of all our teachers as well as the Saturday remedial classes. We are looking forward to achieving even better results in the next study years.

The vision of empowering children cannot only be achieved in class work but also with the involvement of the co-curricular activities. By this, talents are noticed and natured to maturity. This is discovered through clubs and that’s the reason of having clubs in our school. The school has a total of six clubs each headed by a club patron who is members of our teaching staff. The club meetings and activities are all done every day from 4:00pm to 4:45pm. Each day has a different club activities scheduled. With a team spirit, the school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child. Your support has been greatly appreciated and we pray that God blesses you all abundantly.

Secondary School News

Our high school students have been really working hard in their studies and this has been reflected from their continuous assessment results. I would like to commend the high scholars for the way they have conducted themselves as there has been improvement in terms of discipline and majority of them have shown seriousness as far as pursuit for excellence in academics and other areas is concerned. This has been made possible by the commitment of the teachers who are working hand in hand to ensure that the students perform well in each and every study subject. Also we have introduced external counseling sessions which are conducted by external professional counselors and this has impacted positively on our children in regards to their attitude to education, wellbeing and life in general.

Apart from school work we have been engaging our students in various extra-curricular activities. This has been made possible by the various clubs in our school and as a result we have been able to realize and nurture the various talents and gifts of our children. The clubs have being running well and the respective patrons have being introducing new things this motivating the students to participate more and be more involved in the club activities. As reported earlier we shall start competing with other schools next year where we shall engage our students in competition with students from other schools. Competition will be in games, debates, cultural activities and educational symposiums. Our objective is to add value to what they are been taught in school as well as gain insights and learn new things as they continue to pursue on their education.

It is my hope and expectation that the high school will go far in all areas, namely; education and in all the co-curricular activities. Am optimistic that all the students will do well and be promoted to form two by the end of the year. We want to thank the Huruma administration for making all we do possible and successful. Lastly we want to thank all our friends around the world for supporting our Home and School. May the Lord God bless you all.
