   Huruma News Update

        November 2010

The Huruma Family is blessed to have this opportunity to send you our November 2010 newsletter issue. We feel blessed and delighted this moment as we share with you what the Lord has been doing in our wonderful Home and lives during that month. We pray that you will be refreshed and blessed as you read through it. We hope our friends and partners will appreciate the news update. Here is another of our Huruma Newsletter. Love you all our Friends and Partners!!

Love,

Huruma Family.

Huruma Family       By Mama Zipporah – Founder/Director.

I continue expressing our sincere gratitude to all of you who have stood with us as we continue rescuing lives of vulnerable orphans in Kenya. With your love, prayers and giving, hope and destiny have been ignited in our children. Be assured, our faith is increased through your partnership in changing their lives and giving them hope for a successful and fruitful future.

November has come with a lot of changes for we realized the Head of our school was not interested in furthering his education. Three of our volunteers took the initiative and offered to take three of our teachers to a Teacher’s College to further their education which was aimed at enhancing and raising the academic level of our school. This initiative will give us a leverage to compete with other schools as well as improve on the quality of education we offer our children. But unfortunately the Head of our school was not for the idea even though we had him two days in a week to attend college classes. He left the Home School but we are happy that the other two teachers joined the Teacher’s College where one of them is my first child in the Home which means a lot to me since she has set the pace for the others behind her.  Our Court case has been taken to 6th of April 2011 and the court Order has been extended in our favor.

Despite all these changes our eighth grade candidates sat for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations which went smoothly with no hitch. The challenging thing is that I had to monitor the candidates as they did these examinations as we did not have a school head. For those three days I could not leave the examination room as I had to also guard the exams as well as sign their opening and closing at the end of the day. Also l was privileged to oversee our neighbor special school that also did their examination in our school as they were only two students. The interesting thing is that we had to undertake a sign language method of explaining the examination rules and requirements which was done by one of their teachers as they both were deaf and dumb.

Our Home school broke for the December holidays and am thankful to God for seeing me through and also giving us teachers who helped me so much and we were able to close the school with a lot of happiness and appreciate the students who did their best in their various grades. Next year we are seeing another class open which is grade 10 where here in Kenya we call it form two. This will see our eighth graders going to form one and our former form ones going to form two. This as a result means that all our other kids will go a grade higher and they are excited to see themselves in new grades. We are praying God for the providence of school text books for the 15 students in form 2 and the laboratory to be started. The room for the laboratory is ready and we have been able to put up tables and we believe that all the other requirements both basic and crucial will be provided for in our secondary school.

You know sometimes it is good to see former volunteers visiting the Home and it gives one a reason to praise God and see for yourself what He has been doing in our Home and children lives. We are happy for we hosted one of our former volunteers named Maria, who visited our Home nine years ago through Nairobi Chapel. We are grateful to God for she is now married and her husband accompanied her together with her Auntie and her husband. They stayed for two days which was great for us as we spent those wonderful days remembering where we have come from as a Home.

DORMITORIES PROGRESS - We are doing good progress for we have been buying building materials such as: stones, sand, ballast and cement which are quite expensive and also we needed the stones to be dressed (smoothed) so that when we start building we shall only be focused on paying labor only. It is our prayer that on June 2011 we shall be able to finish one dormitory which will be divided into two apartments which will host especially the big children. We thank God for our construction Engineer who is working closely with us to see everything is as expected and our Contractor named Kenyan who is ever on site with the construction workers.  It was our prayer that the building of the walls start in December and am grateful to God for fulfilling this desire for me as it has already started.

We thank you so much for your love and patient and always know that we care and pray for you. Through your generous sponsorship, love and support you have shown our children that you care and value them and words cannot express my gratitude. Through the sponsorship of your child, we have been able to improve the living standards in our home, provide nutritious food as well as expand the current sleeping quarters for our children and this includes your sponsored child. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. The Bible in the book of James 1:27 says, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world”. Again, thank you for joining  with me and for your continued generous support and prayers. It means the world to us and to all of my  children who sometimes think they have so little to give. Please continue to pray for us and we will pray for you. We love you all and we would like to take this to moment and say that:

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Home News

The month started well and as a Home we have a reason to thank God for everything He has done to our precious Home; first and foremost the care and protection He has offered to us as Huruma Fraternity. There has been no major occurrence in the Home and all went smoothly as expected by everyone in the entire organization. It was a beautiful month that saw the excitement of our 2010 candidates as they sat for their final examinations eager to join high school in the year 2011. This makes a big promotion to our current form ones who are the Pioneers of our High School. The whole period of the examination was calm and we give thanks to God for His love upon the kids.

God has been so much faithful to us that even at this time the country is experiencing season of dry spell; we have not missed a meal for our kids. The Home received foodstuffs from individuals and also from corporate institutions and no single day we have gone without food. First may I appreciate Daystar University for their great support and most of all for sacrificing their precious time for the sake of the children. This is true love that transcends all races and surely may the good Lord increase this love even to the wider communities. Your advice and encouragement to the kids have made us move a step forward bearing in mind that we have external people who support and appreciate the kind of work that we do.  It’s of great need to our children as they feel appreciated even by the wider community. May the Lord sustain your kindness.

Many special thanks go to our friends from Red-Cross who came to visit the children in the Home and also sacrificed most of their precious time to interact with our children on the 27th November, 2010. They later donated a lot foodstuff to the Home and may the Lord Almighty extend their territories as they continue defending the rights of the less fortunate in the society. You really moved us with your action and we bless your heart and it is our prayer that God will give you long life to continue standing the gap of the vulnerable groups in our society. Special thanks also to the HACO Industries who paid us a surprise visit and donated to the Home a huge package of rice amounting to 18 bundles. This donation really helped during our inter-homes tournaments which were held in early December 2010. Your company is truly a blessing to our Home and may God expand your territories.

It is very encouraging feeling that we have people out there who think and carry our burdens in a positive way. Many thanks once again to all of you and receive God’s blessing and above all may you receive gratitude from our God given children. May I also remember our friends who visited the Home as individuals touching the lives of our children in one way or the other. Blessings to you all our friends and partners around the Home. Last but not least our volunteers from different parts of the country and those who come from outside the country, may God intervene in all areas of your lives. You have given us material support and to an extent, giving us a shoulder to cry on. Your Love to the kids is unforgettable!!!

Home Health News

The Home health clinic has been providing services as usual during this month. Our children have not experienced any major illnesses and we are thankful to God for giving us good health and protecting our children from any major illnesses. Our HIV kids continued with their monthly clinical check-ups with Lea Toto Health centre. All are gaining on their weight and are also in good health. As a whole, the health status of all our children has been good and we thank God for making this possible in regards to His un-ending love, care and protection to all our beautiful children.

We want to thank our donors who have been contributing margarine, peanut butter, fruits, and medicine to our HIV-Positive children. Thank you all for all the support you provide in regards to making a health facility operate smoothly. May the Almighty God enrich your souls and heart’s desire and we pray that His blessings will be upon always.

Primary & Secondary School News

The month started on a very busy note as our grade eight candidates intensely continued to prepare for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (K.C.P.E.). Finally on the 9th of November, 2010 our eighth graders sat for their national examinations and the examinations went smoothly as expected. During this time our children in the lower grades got a chance to have a one week break from school which they spent preparing for their end-term examinations. We believe that our scholars will come out with great grades as they prepare to join high school early year 2011. We believe that the effort the teachers have being putting in will not go to waste and all our kids will come out with good results come the end of the study year.

I would like to commend all our pupils and students scholars for the way they have conducted themselves through-out the year as they have shown seriousness as far as pursuit for excellence in academics and other areas is concerned. This being the last month of our study year all our pupils and students are excited as they will all be going a grade higher come next year. As a result they are putting an extra effort in their studies and revising hard in preparation for their end term examinations. This will also see the Home School start their first Form Two class as our form one students will go a grade higher too!! This is such a blessing to the Home and we pray that God will see us through and provide for all that is required for this new high school class such as text books, stationeries and laboratory facilities. Pray with us that our dream continues of empowering our children with quality education among other important aspects in life for them to be responsible and successful Kenyan citizens.

All this have been made possible by the commitment of all our teachers who are working hand in hand to ensure that the students perform well in each and every study subject. Also we have introduced external counseling sessions which are conducted by external professional counselors and this has impacted positively on our children in regards to their attitude to education, wellbeing and life in general. With a team spirit, both the primary and secondary school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child. Your support has been greatly appreciated and thank you for helping our children realize their dreams through education!!
