Huruma Family - By Mama Zipporah – Founder/Director
On behalf of Huruma Trust Fund, I would like to thank you for supporting our Sponsor-A-Child-to-School College Sponsorship programme as well as our on-going dormitory construction project. This year we were able to enroll over 14 children in grade nine which we usually know it as Form One. We are grateful to God for we were able to provide free school supplies and uniforms for all our high school children these inclusive of text books and stationeries for the grade ten students. We could not have achieved this humanitarian move without your support. In line with this, we will be doing several fundraising events for we need to move our children to the new dormitories soon. We are starting in Kenya where I will be walking 27 kilometers to Nairobi with my children and friends of the Home. It is my prayer that you would you like to come and join us as we walk the last leg of the construction project which started way back in March 24th March 2001, when Evangelist Teresia Wairimu broke the ground for this worthy course.
As per now we have the following facilities in our Home: a school with 22 classes, Administration Block, Conference Hall/Chapel, Health Centre, Dining Hall and a Biogas project which are all 95% complete. As our friends and partners we would be delighted to have you on-board so that you can personally witness the changes taking effect as we finish this big project in Huruma Children’s Home.
NB: Kindly please let us know if you would like to be/take part as l walk the last leg to realize my millennium goal.
You may call for any information on our volunteer group for we need many to help us organize or you may drop off your regular contributions to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, AZ, Chandler. Your donations both in finances and in kind, have done so much and will certainly go a long way. We look forward to seeing you on the 2nd of April 2011which is the day we shall hold our first walk to Nairobi. Your presence, support and prayers shall be highly appreciated. You are a blessing to our children and our Home and we are grateful to have you as our friends and partners in this children ministry.
Home News December 2010
This was a vacation with no comparison and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been so faithful to our entire organization for all our needs because He has surely provided and our cup overflowed more than ever during the Christmas season. The holiday programme was marvelous and the children enjoyed it more than ever before. Special thanks to those who contributed to this making as their selfless commitment made the holiday more enjoyable.
The first week of December was a busy schedule as the Home hosted the inter-homes games competition in Ngong Division. This saw the accommodation of seven Children Homes in the competing teams. The games lasted for four days and the final teams were awarded with trophies. This was also a good time for the children of the same feathers to flock together and make new friends.
First and foremost I would like to appreciate our friends from all over the world. Those of you who visited as individuals, groups and organizations we thank you so much for being there for us and especially for the children who are always ready to receive anyone who is ready to give them love and more so a shoulder to cry on.
To start with we would like to pass our special regards to Brookside Company for donating yoghurt milk to the children. May the Lord Almighty bless your Company beyond compare for your generosity. Your giving is truly a blessing to the kids for it gives them a good supplement and boosts our diet. My prayer is that God will make you great among Nations because you are not just his Co-Workers but servants of all the others.
To the Coca-Cola East and Central Africa friends, you are special gifts to us. Your continued support moves us in a great way and we appreciate the far you have come with us. The wonderful gifts of computers will give us a chance to move with the modern technology and empower our children with knowledge. You have surely opened doors for them and I believe you have lit a candle that will remain shining in their lives.
The Bible says in the book of 2nd Timothy that, “Gods spirit does not make cowards out of us but the spirit gives us power, love and self-control. I believe the secret of success is the consistency of purpose and doing ordinary things in an extra ordinary manner makes them great. Exploring in the river of success is the expectation of everyone and to see that we move according to the mission statement of the Home which is to “Empower children in need through education, rehabilitation and self-reliance skills”.
To the C.S.I. group that accompanied Dr. Robin on the 18th of December, thank you for your company and for spending your precious time with the kids. More we would like to offer many many thanks for making this Christmas wonderful by donating a shoe to each and every kid. Keep on keeping on and God will bless you and continue giving for blessings. Your work will be highly rewarded.
To the Corporate Insurance Company, you decided to insure our stomachs on the 21st December. You made it possible for our children to enjoy a lot of roast meat “nyama Choma” and lots of assorted foods which you shared with us. We lack words to express this kind of joy but I praise God for bringing you people into our lives. Your deeds are beyond our thoughts. May Jehovah God guide you gently and safely in this life.
As we continue counting our blessings, I cannot forget members of staff from the Safari Club Hotel. Your infinite goodness and friendship for such along time is boundless. Thanks for being there for us and more so to the kids. May God grant you opportunity to do this act of giving back to the community again and again and surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life.
Last but not least, the Rosminians Fathers from Ngong Catholic Church who prepared a wonderful meal for the children. May the Lord reward you for the visitation you paid us on the 27th December and may He open doors of prosperity as you grow. Your giving back to the community was a blessing to us and the children.
Home News January 2011
This was a month without comparison and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been so faithful to our entire organization for all our needs because He has surely provided wholly, granting us favor through His care and protection has been the greatest gift the Lord has provided. His life for us has been so rich beyond compare. We bless His name forever and we are always resting on thee for our shield and defense. As the singer sang that we see Jesus, we have truly seen Him lifting us high.
First and foremost I would like to appreciate our friends from all over the world. Those of you who visited as individuals, groups and organizations we thank you so much for being there for us and especially for the children who are always ready to receive anyone who is ready to give them love and more so a shoulder to cry on. Special thanks go to World Gospel Mission through Michael & Kay Johnson who are purely behind the success of our children for the provision of high school text books.
Your giving is beyond words can explain but it is my prayer that it is known to God the Captain of your salvation. Since the road to success is LONG and WEARY we still believe that all things work out for good for those who trust in the Lord. May the Lord richly reward you with good health and good life to both you and your family.
We also received a lot of gifts in various forms including clothing and foodstuffs to name but a few and this is glory. We are also happy for the progress which has been achieved in the Home. More so in personal cleanness among the children, general cleanness of the Home and this has been made possible by the children who are now responsible of the household chores. We have also set a rotational programme to be adhered to on Sunday afternoon and this includes sports, music, counseling and movies respectively.
The facilitators of these activities are the staff who have volunteered to walk an extra mile for the sake of the beneficiaries who are the children. Assisting them in making sound decision and to make the right choices is a priority of every staff in our organization. This has also extended to external invitation to our friends and partners who volunteer to facilitate counseling sessions.
May the Lord Almighty continue to bless those people who have always stood by our side in times of dire need in the Home. Thanks for filling the gap that existed between our children and their background; for they are children with moving testimonies. As the singer sang and said that “We have a story to tell the nations, That shall turn their hearts to the right: A story of truth and sweetness, A story of peace and light: For the darkness shall turn to dawning, and the dawning to noonday bright, And Christ’s great kingdom shall come on earth, The kingdom of Love and light. For sure we continue to sing………we will tell the story of how we overcame the year 2010!!!
Home Health News
The months of December 2010 and January 2011 have been good months in regards to the health of all our children and I thank the Lord Almighty for the way He has been caring for us all through the month. During the month of December most of our children joined their extended families for the Christmas holidays and thus the Home was left with only a few kids whose health was good all through and the clinic attended to the minor health cases that occurred here and there.
The Lea Toto Health Centre treated our HIV kids to a wonderful Christmas day-out during the month. Our kids had a great and fun day and they also got a chance to integrate with other kids from other Homes who had also been treated to a day-out. May God bless them for caring and loving our children and all the other HIV children in other Homes.
Our HIV kids are doing great and we thank God for granting them good health as they continue striving towards their goal in life. Their clinical check-ups with Lea Toto Health Centre went on as usual and they are responding well to their treatment. As a whole, the health status of all our children has been good and we thank God for making this possible in regards to His un-ending love, care and protection to all our beautiful children.
During the month of January 2011 the children were weighed and de-wormed and they showed good growth and development in their health. We want to thank our donors who have been contributing fruits, peanut butter, and medicine to our HIV-Positive children. Also we are grateful to God as all our children have been enjoying a boiled egg thrice a week which has boosted on their protein in-take. Thank you all for all the support you have been providing as it made our health facility operate smoothly. May the Almighty God enrich your souls and heart’s desire and we pray that His blessings will be upon always in the years to come.
School News
Both the primary school and secondary school resumed back to class on the 10th of January 2011. All of our children went a grade higher and as a result we saw the introduction of grade ten which we usually know it as form two in our education system. This year we saw our High School increase its number of students to twenty seven students.
In form one we have six boys and eight girls while in form two we have seven boys and six girls. Since the beginning of the year and the term, the students have been much disciplined and the minor cases that have occurred have been dealt with immediately. The students are really working hard in their studies and settling in well in their new grades.
Teachers have started issuing assessment tests to the students and the results have been quite encouraging. The results have revealed that few of the students in some grades need more attention so as to improve in their class work but despite this majority of the students are above academic average. This has been achieved through the commitment of all our teachers as well as the continuance of our on-going Saturday remedial classes. We are looking forward to achieving even better results in the next study years.
The vision of empowering children cannot only be achieved in class work but also with the involvement of the co-curricular activities. By this, talents are noticed and natured to maturity. This is discovered through clubs and that’s the reason of having clubs in our school. With a team spirit, the school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with self-reliant skills by working together and tirelessly for the betterment of the child. Your support has been greatly appreciated and we pray that God blesses you all abundantly.
