Our Home could not have been the same without friends and partners like you and therefore we take this moment to present you our January newsletter to share with you what the Lord has been doing in our wonderful Home. We pray that you will be refreshed as you read through it. We hope our friends and partners will appreciate the news update. Here is another of our Huruma Newsletter. Blessings to you!!
Love, Huruma Fraternity. Huruma Family (By: Mama Zipporah)I just want to take this moment and say thank you so much for standing with me all this while in this children ministry. Another year has started and I have great hopes for my children. David Mburu who was only 2 years when he joined Huruma has been able to join Gresta University where he is undertaking his pre–university course to enable him pursue his desired degree course. Also Pastor Jojo has Joined St. Paul’s Theological University for his pre-university where he will then join Daystar University for his Theological degree. It is such a great joy to see the children excelling and l am so happy to say God is great; that despite all that has happened my mind is still focused on empowering my children with Education. Am proud to say that we have been able to pay for all our high school children and they are now in their respective schools.
The biggest goal in life as I have always said is to emulate the former Director of Starehe Boys Center, one of our National Schools in Kenya. The institution started as an orphanage and now it is one of the always soughted after schools in Kenya which has produced great men in our country. The only thing which was remaining was a High School which is also a big step which l had to do due to the love of my children who are H.I.V. Positive who were joining high school this year.
John joined our home when he was in grade one in 2001. Nobody volunteered to tell us what was wrong with him only that he was an orphan. He was referred by an organization which was training me on a management course. One week after he joined the home we came to know that he was having Tuber Closis, Typhoid and that he did not have enough blood. The sad thing was when he was checked and he was found to also be H.I. V. positive. I was referred to Nyumbani Children’s Home by the health centre where John was admitted. They gave me a lot of hope for him and they advised me to put him on Anti-Retro Viral medicine. They also warned me on the sequences of the medicine and told me if am not serious, l leave the medicine, but l dared the nurse in charge and l told her that l believe God will provide for all the money l needed for his medication. I want to thank Dr. Michael Johnson of World Gospel Mission who took the case personally and l remember this day when he carried him on his shoulders running to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital before it was closed.
Emmanuel is another of our children who has the same condition as John. He joined the home with his four siblings whereby three of them were also infected with the virus. I thank God because when he joined the home we had already stabilized on how to handle children with the H.I.V. virus and also had set up systems of medical check-ups for them. He has been on medication since he joined the home and am glad to say that all our children with this condition have been doing well health wise and I thank God for that. Both John and Emmanuel were among the children who sat for their primary national examinations and they both performed well with John attaining 288 marks and Emmanuel attaining 289 marks.
I am glad to report that we have a high school now. The Public Health inspected our home and they said it was fit to engage in this new project. I also offer my thanks to Pastor John Preece who introduced us to the “British and Foreign Schools Society", who funded for the desks which we are using in our new High School. We are so happy for the Meva Foundation in Holland and Mrs. Kay Johnson who have funded for all the high school text books.
I also want to thank Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Arizona, Florence Koechlin and the friends of Belgium who have supported the Biogas project. This was a very expensive project which has been built with the help of Kenyan Biogas Consultants who offered there services for free. I can say the project is almost finished because now only the gas line is remaining.
I have a lot to say on what the Lord has done to this home but I will write the rest on the next newsletter. I want you to know that l love you so much, l care and l always pray for you. Thank you so much for supporting me and standing with me at all times. I go to court again on the 3rd of March and I pray that God’s favour shall be upon us on this day. Remember us in our prayers. We love you all and we truly care for you. Counseling News (By: Sis Monicah)The beginning of year 2010 set in with a lot of review of what we had covered last year in counseling and guidance. Some of the topics were life changing and most youth discovered areas that have changed their life positively. They also requested some areas to be dealt with in a deeper way. One major area that we agreed to learn and research more on was on the topic of Personal Development.
The counselor started this session in a way that helped the youth research more and more. We defined Personality as a pattern of characteristic thoughts, feelings and behaviours that persists over time and situations and also distinguishes one individual from another. During our discussion, we discovered that no two people are exactly alike in the way they think, feel or act though we are all created in the likeness of God. I helped the youth to discover themselves by writing on a piece of paper who they are. I guided them on how to write a journal i.e. notes on how they feel as well as act towards every issue in life. After studying about the journal each individual would try to understand their personality.
I left the youth with the homework of writing journals for a period of like one month and we agreed to do several case studies that will help us discover our personality. Some of the things to consider when dealing with our personality are: - - How do you/I react to issues?
- Why do you/I behave the way you/I do?
The verse that guided us as we began and continued to study and improve on our personality was Psalms 119: 9 and 11 which says, “How can a young man live a pure life? By hiding the word of God in my heart that I may not sin against you”.
May the Lord bless you, big time!! Home School News (By: Mr. Kwaka)Introduction This is another new year and we are grateful to God for giving us life and good health in addition to an added year in our lives. The school has opened for its first study term and the children have all been taken a grade higher which makes it a very exciting process. Some of our teachers have left the school to go join various higher institutions of learning to continue with their education. As a result we have new teachers in the school and the children have well adapted to them as well as their teaching styles. The children are also coping well in their new classes and am grateful to God for His gift of intelligence among the Huruma children as they are truly doing well in their various classes. Remember them in your prayers as they continue to study hard in school for God’s favour and blessings upon their education.
Library Our home school has started the year with a well stocked and equipped library which is adequately blessed with reference books and materials, study books and storybooks for all ages. The librarian is in charge of this facility and the teachers have set aside sessions of patronizing the library where the pupils spend time reading. This has as a result improved on their communication writing and oral skills which is evident in their grammar lesions and assessment tests.
Staffing Our school has still maintained a number of 18 staff members who have been working as a team to see that the pupils are benefiting in all areas of learning. Out of the 18 staff members, 17 are capable teachers who work with the pupils in classes and outdoor activities. Each teacher has got their assigned classes that they teach and lead in the outdoor activities. As stated earlier the school has a library teacher who takes care of the library and attends to the library lessons in the school.
Conclusion With a team spirit, the school hopes to fulfill the vision of empowering children in need with education and self-reliant skills. This will be achieved through working and tirelessly as a team for the betterment of the child. We hope to do much better and achieve higher grades this whole year thus raise the bar in our school education level. Thank you for your prayers and continued support towards our whole institution and we pray that God will reward you abundantly. We truly appreciate you in our lives and may God Almighty bless you according to the desires of your hearts. Huruma Chapel News (By: Pastor Jojo)Praise God! Glory is to God of our fathers who has called us, to fellowship with Him, in His kingdom, as Ephesians 2:10 says. The year started in a good note and the Lord has continued to sustain our faith in Him. He has been our “Jehovah Jire” our provider for I can testify that the ministry has not lacked anything. His steadfast love has been new every morning in our lives, Amen!!
What a God we serve! He has taken good care of us and we have seen His hand in all we are doing. Last month we did not have a major issue in the church, we are doing fine, and as we are continuing well with our weekly Bible study on Wednesday nights. Am glad to say that God has been so faithful in my life as in the beginning of this month I finally fulfilled my desire to join a higher institution of learning. Am glad to testify that I am now a student in St. Paul’s University undertaking a pre-university degree course where soon after I will join Daystar University where I will pursue my Bachelor of Arts in Theology. Wow!! God comes at the right time because I was wondering who will take over the Bible Study sessions only for God to send to us Pastor Joshua from one of our greatest Kenyan Evangelical Ministry. He is now filling in for me in most of the weekdays teachings while am in school. He is an amazing man of God, and we in Huruma love him so much.
The new church construction is still under progress; the roofing has been completed and we are trusting God for the finishing of the whole project. The church is fairing well and God is leading us according to His will and plan for us. As Psalms 27:13, says “I am still confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living”. It has been so real and true in our ministry, especially for the whole of last year, and we believe and pray even for the years to come this shall remain.
Continue remembering us in your prayers as we continue to serve in the children ministry. We love you, pray for you, and treasure the relationship God started between us, for His known reasons. To God be the Glory, for the great things He has done. Amen! Amen! Yours in Christ fellowship. Home News (By: Sis Grace)Once again am humbled to have this opportunity to bring to your attention the news of yet another new month in the New Year 2010. This was a month without comparison and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been so faithful to our entire organization for all our needs because He has surely provided wholly. Granting us favor through his care and protection has been the greatest gift the Lord has provided. First and foremost I would like to appreciate our friends from all over the world. Those of you who visited our Home as individuals, groups and organizations we thank you so much for being there for us and especially for the children who are always ready to receive anyone who is ready to give them love and more so a shoulder to cry on. May the Lord Almighty grant you His riches in Glory and that you may continue being of great support to the children.
I believe the secret of success is the consistency of purpose and doing ordinary things in an extra-ordinary manner makes them great. Exploring in the river of success has been through Christ who STRENGTHENS US according to the book of Philippians. Since the road to success is LONG and WEARY we still believe that all things workout for good, The Lord will surely provide in abundance!!! May the Lord Almighty continue to bless those people who have always stood by our side in times of dire need in the Home. Thanks for filling the gap that existed between our children and their background for they are children with moving case histories.
As the singer sang and said that “We have a story to tell the nations, that shall turn their hearts to the right: A story of truth and sweetness, a story of peace and light: For the darkness shall turn to dawning, and the dawning to noonday bright, and Christ’s great kingdom shall come on earth, the kingdom of love and light”. God has continued to lead our path, leading us in doing the right things which gratified some people and leaving others in astonishment because the Lord has surely done.
We also received a lot of gifts in various forms including clothing and foodstuffs to name but a few and this is glory. We are also happy for the progress which has been achieved in the Home. More so in personal cleanness among the children, general cleanness of the Home and this has been made possible by the children who are now responsible of the household chores. We have also set a rotational programme to be adhered to on Sunday afternoons and this includes sports, music, counseling and movies respectively. The facilitators of these activities are the staffs who have volunteered to walk an extra mile for the sake of the beneficiaries who are the children. Assisting them in making sound decision and to make the right choices is a priority of every staff in our organization. We appreciate you very much for been a part of our children ministry and we are really blessed to have you in our children lives and our organization.
Blessings to you all!! Home Health News (By: Nurse Mary)This month of January our Home clinic continued its service as usual and it operated effectively with enough drug supply and God’s blessing and protection of our children health. We are grateful to God for we have not had any major illnesses among our children this month and He has continued to protect our children from any form of diseases that may jeopardize their healthy conditions.
Our HIV-positive children continued to follow up with their clinic for counseling and obtaining their monthly ARV drugs from Lea Toto Health Clinic. The clinic has continually been observing our children health status and advising the Home clinic where required on how to boost our children’s immunization system. Drug withdraw has not been reported among our children and none has experienced opportunistic infections and we thank the Lord for care and protection He has continually offered to our children. Lea Toto Health Clinic has also continually provided the Home with nutritional porridge flour for boosting our HIV-positive health status. May the Almighty God bless all those individuals involved in the health clinic and may He grant them the desires of their hearts.
The clinic facility had enough drugs supply from Dr. Robin who has contributed a lot in ensuring that our Home clinic is well stocked with all the necessary medication required for all our children. Generally, the health status of our children is satisfactory and we appreciate the fact that the Lord has been providing for our day to day food. Our Home clinic highly appreciates the willing donors who have supported this facility by supplying it with equipment and drugs. May the Lord Almighty bless them and bless the work of their hands. Thanks also to those who devoted their time and resources and assisted us in the clinic by monitoring the children’s health.

A Note of Thanks (By: Sialo Catherine)Huruma Children’s Home has yet started another year serving and caring for the needy children in our country Kenya. It has taken the hand of God for us to where we are now as an organization and for that we are truly grateful to our Almighty God for His love and faithfulness. More so we are grateful to Him for bringing in wonderful and great people into our lives, who are you our friends and partners to be a part of this noble ministry. May God bless you abundantly and may He bless the work of your hands as well as the desires of your hearts. Our children are all back to school in the various high schools as well as in our home school. They are all in new grades in school and they have gone a step higher in their education levels. Our children who did their national exams last year are enjoying some time off school as they wait to join high school early February. It is a blessing to see how far the Lord has taken them as far as their education is concerned and also the Home is not as quiet as it is always the case when all the kids are up in school!! Pray for them as they get ready to embark into the next level of their education, for God’s favour and guidance to be upon them as they continue unfolding what God has in store for them in their lives. This year we have another bunch of fourteen kids who are preparing for the primary level national examinations. We also have four of our girls who are preparing for their high school national examinations, all to be done at the end of this year. Remember them in your prayers as they study for these examinations for God’s favour to be upon them for the whole period they will be studying. We are expecting good grades from each and every one of them and I know they are all excited as they strive on in their education to see what next for them after this great step in their lives. Go kids!!! I would like to take this moment to thank all our volunteers around the various parts of the world. It is an honour keeping in touch with us and wanting to always know what is happening in our Home and with the kids. We are grateful to have you in our lives and we just want to say that we love you and you are always in our hearts and thoughts. We always remember you in our prayers and we never cease to hope that we shall see you again and host you in our lovely Home. Lastly I want to appreciate all our friends and partners from all over the world for loving and caring for us. You are special God sent people and we are blessed to have you as part of our children ministry. We love you and we are always praying for you and your families. I want to take this moment and thank all those people who visited our Home this month either individually or in a group. We really appreciate this kind gesture and we are grateful to you all for offering yourselves to come and spend some of your time with our children. May the Lord Almighty bless you all our friends and partners according to the desires of your hearts!! We love you all and you are great treasures to our wonderful children and the entire Huruma Fraternity.
We love you and blessings to you all. |
