Love, Huruma Family.
Huruma Family (By Mama Zipporah – Founder/Director.)I just want to thank God for each one of you. You have been a blessing to me and my children despite challenges with the children becoming youth which has been another opening to the ministry of youth in our home. We thank God for our young Pastor Jojo as he is popularly known and we thank God for Pastor Linn Winters and the Olkeri Pastors Fellowship who have mentored him to who he is today. Together we are coming up with various strategies to bring up our youth in the ways of God for them to be men and women of integrity as they pursue their dreams. In total we have 70 youth which makes up half of the population in Huruma Children’s Home.
We also want to thank God for enabling us start a fund for the College students who have finished their time in Huruma and also have attained the O’levels certificate. This will also be one of a way to touch our youth so that they can have hope and put more effort in their education. As Huruma Family we want to thank God for Mama Lisa and the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Chandler Arizona, who have supported the idea which will become functional as from this year. Through this fund, David Mburu Makumi now aged 20yrs will be joining Gretsa University this September to pursue his first degree in Business Administration and Pastor Jojo now aged 22yrs will be joining Pan African University the same time to do his first degree in Theology. We thank God to see one of our children namely David Otieno who will attain his first degree in Agriculture Economics which he will be granted in 2011. Please pray with me that the college fund will give them hope to pursue greater heights in all areas of their young lives. Catherine Sialo, our biological daughter who resigned her job to come work with me after the death of my husband has now been released from working for Huruma to go and pursue her dreams. Her administrative position has been taken up by Miss. Nancy Muthoni who has a degree in Business Administration and has also worked in the banking industry for some years and the most beautiful thing is that she loves the Lord.
Good news - the Dormitories project has started again and it’s going on well. Right now you cannot see much because we are still finishing the sub-structure but on November you will see the walls coming up. Thanks so much for being kind to us and we shall not let you down in regards to the same. On September 17th we shall go back to court now for the minister to say why she was closing down the home but the said minister has now been transferred to another ministry but l believe that God is still in control for He told me that the minister cannot help me but only Him so just thank God for it He in control of the situation. All in all we love you so much and you are very dear to the entire Huruma Family. You are always remembered in our prayers and may the Lord Almighty continue to favour and bless you as individuals and also your families. Home NewsThe month started well and as an organization we have a reason to thank God for everything He has done to our precious home. First and foremost the care and protection He has offered to us as Huruma fraternity. There has been no major occurrence in the home and all went smoothly and this has taken the mercies of God who has been our guide in each step that we took. A step of faith and trusting in the Lord for all His providence. God has been so much faithful to us for the provision of our basic needs and more so for giving us people all over the world to share our burdens with. The home received foodstuffs from individuals and also from institutions and no single day we have gone lacking any our basic requirements.
First may I appreciate the Coca-Cola East & Central Africa Limited who spent most of their time with the children doing all kind of manual work in our home. The cleaning that you carried in the household left us gazing and the extra mile you walked to just ensure the kids were clean was overwhelming. The teeth brushing programme you initiated has continued with the support of our pre-school teachers. This is a wonderful initiative and may God bless you and provide for you in abundance. It is of great need and the children feel appreciated even by the wider community. Coca-Cola people know that you are gifts the Lord has placed in our lives.
Many special thanks go to our friends from Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Arizona, for defending the rights of the less fortunate in the society and above all supporting the poor and the fatherless in our country. Know that we love you so much for the fact that you truly love us and we consider it a joy knowing and partnering with you. Thanks to Pastor Marty McIntyre and Papa Dave Smiley who visited from Cornerstone and for the wonderful work they did in the few days they were with us. This was excitement with inspiration, motivation and a pinch of creativity and we are short of words to explain how we feel but we believe that God will reward you accordingly. Our home is very beautiful after initiating the beautiful speakers in our worship room and the cumbersome work of setting up the equipments is a past that we have left behind. Thank you also for interacting with everyone in the Home and just having good time with the kids.
It’s very supporting to feel that we have people out there who think of us in a positive way. Many thanks once again and receive Gods blessing and above all may you receive gratitude’s from our God given children. Special thanks to students from St. Patrick’s Hill school for the special visit that you made to our home and this has always designed a wonderful time for interaction with the kids in the home. May I also remember our friends who visited the home as individuals touching the lives of our children in one way or the other. Your giving whether material or moral support means a lot to our beloved children and may the Lord God bless you abundantly. Home Health NewsThe month of July has been good in regards to the healthiness of all our children. As compared to June it also has been a cold month thus most of our children experienced minor cold illnesses which were attended to by our home nurse. Our HIV kids are doing great and we thank God for granting them good health as they continue striving towards their goal in life. Their clinical check-ups with Lea Toto Health centre went on as usual and they are responding well to their treatment. As a whole, the health status of all our children has been good and we thank God for making this possible in regards to His un-ending love, care and protection to all our beautiful children. We thank our donors who have been contributing eggs, peanut butter, fruits, eggs and medicine to our HIV-Positive children. Thank you all for all the support you provide in regards to making a health facility operate smoothly. May the Almighty God enrich your souls and heart’s desire and we pray that His blessings will be upon always. Primary School NewsThis is the last month of our second school study term where a lot of serious tutoring has been in progress and we are looking forward to achieving even better results towards the end of this term and even to the end of the year. The results of the end term examinations have revealed that majority of the pupils in all the classes have improved which is a great encouragement to us as teachers. This has been achieved through the commitment of the teacher as well as the introduction of the remedial classes on Saturdays. We are looking forward to achieving even better results in third term and even to the end of the year.
The vision of empowering children cannot only be achieved in class work but also with the involvement of the co-curricular activities. By this, talents are noticed and natured to maturity. This is discovered through clubs and that’s the reason of having clubs in our school. The school has a total of six clubs each headed by a club patron who is members of our teaching staff. The club meetings and activities are all done every day from 4:00pm to 4:45pm. Each day has a different club activities scheduled. Our school goes on a one month vacation and we will resume for third term on 6th September 2010. However, there will be remedial classes as from the 23rd August 2010. Thank you so much and may God bless you. Secondary School NewsI am pleased to inform you that we have come to the end of the second term of the academic year 2010 and am thankful that the Lord has kept as well especially during this term that is always characterized with a buzz of activities both academic and extra curricular. I would like to commend the high scholars for the way they have conducted themselves this term, there has been improvement in terms of discipline and majority of them have shown seriousness as far as pursuit for excellence in academics and other areas is concerned. I urge them to continue with the same spirit as there is more room for improvement.
The results of the end term examinations have proven to be very encouraging as majority of our students have an above average performance which can be attributed to improved discipline that they have shown throughout the term. Even so there is still room for improvement because we aim to be among the best in both academic and other extra curricular activities. We will continue to assist the slow learners so as to boost the performance of the class in general.
The students are to break for their August holidays where they will be expected back in school as from August 16th 2010 so as to attend a youth camp that will begin on 17th and end on 19th August 2010.Tuition will there after begin on 23rd August and end on 2nd September 2010. All students and teachers will be expected back for this session for remedial classes.
